**Kitrinos Healthcare offers medical and holistic healthcare services to refugees trapped in Greek refugee camps. We currently operate in our on-site clinics in Camp Moria on the island of Lesvos, supported by an amazing team of medical and non-medical volunteers.**
Our interpreters are the silent and unsung heroes of Kitrinos Healthcare.
Also known as cultural mediators, interpreters are an absolutely vital part of our team on the ground. Without them, our doctors and nurses would not be able to communicate with our patients, and our work would be impossible. The clinical volunteers who come to work with us from all over the world would be unable to have a meaningful conversation, let alone provide an effective and safe clinical consultation.
We predominantly employ skilled individuals living in the camps to help them get back on their feet and get started on their journey towards a better future. They have an in-depth understanding of life in the camps and are therefore able to build a trusting relationship with our refugee clients, helping them to feel comfortable in an otherwise potentially stressful situation.
We employ 12 interpreters per month and we offer each interpreter one free meal per day, as well as an ‘incentive payment’ of £300 per month. This means it costs us £3,400 per month to hire our interpreters.
3 x Arabic interpreters (Syria, Iraq, Palestine)
3 x Farsi/Pashtu interpreters (Afghanistan, Iran)
2 x French interpreters (DRC, Chad)
2 x Kurdish interpreters (Syria, Iraq)
2 x Somali interpreters (Somalia, Sudan)
A problem shared…
To sponsor one interpreter per month:
Between 2 people: £150
Between 4 people: £60 Between 10 people: £30
...or simply donate what you can! If 100 people gave only £3 each, that would cover the cost of one interpreter for a month. Alternatively, why not do a sponsored run, sponsored silence, or hold a cake sale or garage sale? Everything helps!
Please share this with all your friends and on social media to spread the word. We couldn't do what we do without you - THANK YOU!
