Our Story
The powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake which
struck off the cost of Central Sulawesi in Indonesia and followed by a tsunami
on Friday 28 September 2018. The epicentre of the earthquake was
27km east of Donggala Sea, central Sulawesi with Palu and Donggala regions
being heavily affected. The recent update of casualties published by the
Indonesian Board for Disaster Management on Tuesday 9 October 2018 was 2,037 people died, 671 missing and 4,084
heavily injured.
There are 74,044 refugees identified spread in 147 affected locations. It was
recorded that 67,310 houses and 2,736 school damaged. With the large number of
refugees the need for provision of basic necessities are inevitable and
urgently needed.
The aftermath does not only affect the physical damage to infrastructure but also the psychology of the survivors. Children are a group of survivors who are most vulnerable. Counseling Service on the ground is hugely needed for the traumatic children and those who lost loved ones.
